Waqrapukara, also known as Waqra Pukara, is an ancient archaeological site located in the Cusco region of Peru. Situated in the Andes mountains, it’s known for its stunning natural beauty and historical significance. The name “Waqrapukara” means “horned fortress” in Quechua, and the site features unique architectural structures, including stone buildings and terraces. These ruins offer a glimpse into the pre-Inca and Inca civilizations, providing valuable insights into the region’s history and culture. Itynerary
- First we will start with the respective pick up from the hotel in Cusco at 04:30 hrs in the morning.
- Then we will go south of Cusco, to the town of Sangarara where we will have our first stop.
- Then we will continue along a zigzag road to the parking lot, from where the walk will begin.
- Later we will have a walk of approximately 2 hours until we reach the archaeological complex of Waqrapukara, upon arrival we will have enough time to take pictures and tour a large part of the place.
- Then we will return by the same route to the parking lot to return to the city of Cusco (approximate time of arrival 18:30 hrs.)

- Sunscreen – factor 35+ recommended, hat and sunglasses
- Trekking poles (can be rented from us)
- Headlamp with spare batteries (very important)
- Camera with spare batteries – batteries run down at a faster rate at high altitudes
- Binoculars
- Extra money for drinks, souvenirs, tips etc. (soles or dollars)
